CHRISTINE CYR

After graduating from the National Ballet School in 1981, she refined her technique under the masters of the Paris Opera Ballet, one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.

Upon her return to Canada, Christine Cyr continued her career as a soloist with the Anna Wyman Dance Theatre in Vancouver, where she performed leading roles in contemporary creations. She then joined the Atlantic Ballet Company in Halifax, further solidifying her professional dance career.

Starting in 1989, she dedicated herself to training the next generation of dancers. As a guest teacher, she taught at numerous schools across Canada and offered intensive workshops for young talents.

In 2008, she joined the faculty of the École supérieure de ballet du Québec (ESBQ). During her tenure at ESBQ, she played a key role in rewriting the curriculum for the college program and oversaw the revision of the annual reports submitted to the Ministry of Education for both ESBQ and the Pensionnat du Saint-Nom-de-Marie.

In 2010, Christine Cyr accepted a coordination position within the dance program at Collège Sainte-Anne, bringing her pedagogical and artistic expertise to a new generation of young dancers. Alongside her teaching activities, she pursued studies in history at the University of Montreal and earned a master’s degree in arts education, specializing in dance, from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).

In 2000, she accepted the position of Chair of the Board of Directors at PPS Danse, an organization that supports the creation and dissemination of choreographic works in Canada. This management experience allowed her to develop a comprehensive understanding of the needs of the dance community, both artistically and administratively.

Since 2015, Christine Cyr has held the position of Artistic and Educational Director at Ballet Divertimento in Montreal. Under her leadership, the program stands out for its approach based on kindness, artistic excellence, and holistic dancer development, promoting a balance between rigorous technical training and well-being.
